Getting on top of various search engines: Profile of an SEO Specialist!

Search Engine Positioning. Getting On Top of Various Search Engines. These and more are favorite topics in the Internet. But I wonder why so much emphasis is given to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as if it is the end goal. SEO for me is a misnomer. It should be SEP or Search Engine Positioning. But nowhere can you find anything about SEP. It is always SEO; SEO Specialists, SEO Techniques, SEO Tools, etc. Now you know what I mean.

This is not to say that SEO is not an important topic. It is. But as I've said, SEO is just a tool. Just one of the many techniques used to get on top of the search engine list. As such, SEO is only a means to an end, and the end goal is Search Engine Positioning; Search Engine Positioning Services. And that is what we offer - the end goal: Better Search Engine Positioning.

If our sites are not on top of the search engine lists, then simply close this window because it is just wasting your time reading this article. First, you have to know what people would search on the Internet when looking for a particular product or service. You have to anticipate what they will be looking for, what they will be typing in the search box. The words or phrases they type in the search box of their favorite (or default) search engine are "keywords" and "key phrases."

The Christmas season is almost here. People will be typing keywords such as "Christmas Decors" or key phrases such as "Christmas Decors and Holiday Giftware", "Christmas Decors and Holiday Giftware Manufacturers", "Christmas Decors and Holiday Giftware Exporters", "Christmas Decors and Holiday Giftware Suppliers." Now, ask yourself these questions:

"Will the online shoppers be able to see our site in the top 3 pages (top 30) of the search engine list?"

"Will they see us on the Top 10 list?"

If your answers are in the affirmative, then your website is serving your purpose. Will you spend for a big tarpaulin and place it where people cannot see it? Your site visitors should be able to see your corporate website even if it is not indicated in your calling cards and brochures. Remember, when your business is online in the Internet, your business is open 24/7 to the rest of the world.

Also, when online shoppers (in the Philippines) would like to shop on locally available products, Christmas Decors and Holiday Giftware, for example, they would normally choose Google as their search engine, unless they would like to see "results" with foreign sites all over the list. Because Google.com redirects to Google.com.ph and most likely, Philippine sites dominate the search engine results (though this is a disputable presumption, the in-depth discussion of which is no longer covered in this article). Hence, it pays to know who your target markets are. Will you be selling in the Philippines or will you be selling to the rest of the world?

Hence, when you are considering your "keywords and/or key phrases" you should also know who your target markets are.
